Team profile:
The Calgary Selects were first formed in 1992 under the
direction of Team Captain Steven Shelvey, one of the founders
of the CEWHA
- Calgary Division, for the Inaugural Canadian National
Championship that was held in May 1992 at Canada Olympic
Park in Calgary, Alberta.
The Calgary Selects are made up of the best players of
the Canadian Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association - Calgary
Division. The team is selected from scratch for each tournament
that the Calgary Selects compete in.
The Calgary Selects have gone on to compete in each Canadian
National Championship but the Allied Cup eluded their grasp
until the seventh time the tournament was held. On May 21,
2000 at Seneca College in Toronto, Ontario the Calgary Selects
won their first Canadian National Championship. The members
of the Calgary Selects were immortalized as the 2000 Canadian
National Champions when their names were engraved on the
Allied Cup, which makes its home at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
