Team profile:
The WCHL (Wheelchair Hockey League), which is based in Michigan,
first started competing against other national teams in
2000 when they took part in the Canadian National Championships
in Toronto, Ontario.
Todd Pasant started the WCHL in 1995, and after his passing,
Andy Siwarski has led the league to its continuing success
and growth. Starting with only six original players, the
WCHL has blossomed and currently has over 35 players that
compete during the winter in a five-team league. All teams
have the same goal and that is to win the coveted Wheelers
Cup Championship. Vice President Tom Martin produces a monthly
WCHL newsletter (The Slapshot), which contains stats, game
reviews, player comments and personal stories. To raise
league funds the members of the WCHL annually hold an exhibition
Game On Ice. The league consists of players who come from
all across Michigan and also two from Windsor, Ontario,
Canada.
The 2001 Michigan Mustangs are led by Head Coach John Siwarski,
and consists of eleven players including Captain Andy Siwarski
(WCHL League President), Alternate Captain Tom Martin (WCHL
Vice President) and both Canadian league members (Chris
Lemieux and Jamie Porter). The Michigan Mustangs are proud
to represent their league and countries and wish everyone
who is competing the best of luck and safety.
